Myrtle Beach's Freestyle Music Park a Great Combination of Thrills, Spills and Tunes
New to the entertainment scene in Myrtle Beach, Freestyle Music Park offers a diverse array of fun for music lovers, thrill seekers and children. It’s a theme park families can experience together. From the interactive attractions like Grunge Station, where guests can engage in a foam ball fun fight, to exciting rides like The Time Machine, where each experience is a unique, music-fueled adrenaline rush, the time visitors spend at Freestyle Music Park is always time well spent. The VIP Plaza of the park is a rock ‘n roll themed area where Beale Street Theater, No Strings, a hip joint offering drinks and food, and Red, Red Wine, a wine lovers paradise, can be found. My companions and I, however, who are avid roller coaster lovers, headed straight to the parks signature ride – The Time Machine. I was told this 150-foot coaster reached speeds of 65mph, and had six intense inversions and audio tracks that brought music from the past five decades to life. After a short wait, we were eager to board the ride and see for ourselves exactly how intense The Time Machine would be. From the first drop, the ride did not disappoint. The soundtrack provided the perfect way to enjoy the thrills of the coaster as with each twist and turn my heart was beating along to music blasting through the speakers. The Time Machine at Freestyle Music Park is, without question, a must-ride attraction.
After the thrills of the coaster, we were all ready to see what else the park had to offer. Myrtle’s Beach, where The Time Machine is located, offered a great way to cool off with Polly Nesian’s Splash Bash, complete with buckets and funnels for supreme soaking fun. If you have the time, watch the Adrenaline Rush Show, where teams go head-to-head in extreme sports competitions. We found the Across the Pond area of the park to be a favorite, as it highlighted the British music scene America fell in love with during the ‘60s. There are some great photo opportunities to be found, including a recreation of Abbey Road, where we, of course, had to walk Beatle-style across. After riding the Round About ride, which is an experience the whole family can enjoy, we headed to Penny Lane’s Café for a delicious midday meal of burgers and pizza. Pitmedden Bar, a Scottish-style pub, was also a great place to taste the lagers from across the pond. CSI: Live, one of the park’s premiere live shows, provided an interactive journey through crime scene investigations, and my entire party felt like we were playing a real-life Clue game.
Another fun roller coaster was located at Country USA. The Iron Horse twists through an abandoned mill and around Country USA for a trip back into the Wild West, all set to a soundtrack of classic country tunes. Other fun rides at Country USA include The Texas Swing and Big ‘Ol Trucks, both of which the entire family can do together, as they provide mild thrills, so the faint of heart can rest easy.
For more family fun, visit Kids in America. This area of the park is packed with attractions for the kids. From the soaring fun of Fly Like an Eagle to the hands-on amusement found at Fantasy Harbour State Park to the joy of Hang Ten, Kids in America lets every member of the party be a kid again! One ride that is a must-do at this section of the park is Soak’d. The name of this ride says it all. After you strap in, you glide through the treetops of the park. But beware – there are water guns and spigots at every turn, creating a ride where guests literally get soaked! It’s a great combination of high-flying fun and splash-tastic merriment.
As our time at the park drew to a close, we grabbed some tasty ice cream treats from Strawberry, Fields and Cream and watched the “Kiss the Sky” Rock ‘n Roll Nighttime Spectacular Fireworks Finale. After a great day at Freestyle Music Park, we had to buy a few souvenirs from Freestyle Mercantile. With our bags in tow, we left the park but we didn’t leave the thrill of the fun we experienced behind.
